Privacy Policy
Dialogue is the online newsletter for members of New York State TESOL.
NYS TESOL respects the privacy of its members and other visitors to our web site. To protect online privacy, NYS TESOL has implemented the following policy.
What Information Does NYS TESOL Collect?
Most data NYS TESOL collects are used only to help NYS TESOL better serve our members. It is our general policy to collect and store only information that our members and visitors knowingly provide.
From General Visitors
NYS TESOL does not collect any information from visitors browsing its web site. Visitors to the public areas of NYS TESOL's web site browse anonymously. Only aggregate data -- such as the number of hits per page -- are collected. Aggregate data are only used for internal planning and marketing evaluations and do not provide any personally identifying information.
From NYS TESOL Members, Conference Registrants and Other Visitors
To access and use members-only resources and event registration services on the NYS TESOL web site, members and other visitors are asked to provide certain limited information. These data are submitted voluntarily.
How Does NYS TESOL Use Data Collected?
Generally, NYS TESOL uses data collected to improve its own web content; to respond to members' interests, needs and preferences; and to develop new products and services.
Administrative Uses for Contact Information
NYS TESOL collects member contact information, including e-mail addresses, for the purpose of communicating with members for administrative purposes, for distributing designated publications, and to alert members to benefits and services their membership provides them. Online membership renewals and event registrations require billing addresses and telephone numbers for credit card processing and email addresses for sending confirmations. Member contact information also is provided to current NYS TESOL leaders for communications about NYS TESOL events and topics, solicitation of volunteers for projects, etc. You may expect to receive email messages directly related to your membership (such as confirmation of renewal or change in dues), related to critical association issues (such as elections), transmitting e-publications, or new member information. Members who wish not to receive NYS TESOL communications by email may remove their e-mail addresses from their member records entirely. To limit member information in the online member directory, members may change their privacy preferences for any contact information by updating their member profiles.
Member-to-Member Information Sharing
NYS TESOL offers a private (members-only) membership directory online. Members are encouraged to individually manage which information does or does not appear in their directory listing through their Member Profile page. Members may opt completely out of the directory at any time via the My Profile tool or by emailing a request to webmaster@nystesol.org.
Credit Card Account Information
When members or visitors provide credit card account information to NYS TESOL or its agents (publishing house, registration processing company, etc.), NYS TESOL submits the information needed to obtain payment to the appropriate financial institution. NYS TESOL does not further disclose credit card account information obtained from members or visitors.
Rental of Postal and E-Mail Addresses
Member mailing and e-mail addresses may be provided to outside organizations, if the member does not opt out of said mailings. Membership applicants give permission for NYS TESOL to rent its mailing and e-mail lists, unless such permission is expressly denied. Members may opt out of this information sharing at any time by requesting their name be excluded from provision to external institutions (either by e-mailing requests to webmaster@nystesol.org or by updating their privacy preferences in their online profile).
Exclusions
Privacy of all information is not addressable by NYS TESOL.
Communications Platforms - Discussion Boards, E-lists, etc.
The above policies do not address privacy issues related to members who opt to join electronic discussion boards, participate in the online Career Center job bank, provide an e-mail address for the convention program book, or participate in public web-based bulletin board discussions or other communications exchanges available from time to time. If you participate in these optional services, your e-mail address may be visible to other participants.
