NYS TESOL Goes to New Orleans for TESOL Conference 2011

NYS TESOL held its affiliate reception, organized by past president Joanne Beard, to meet with colleagues from around the world. At the conference center the affiliate booth
attracted visitors who were interested in what NYS TESOL had to offer its members.

NCLEA
On May 9th, on the occasion of the NCELA New York Conversation on English Language Learner Education, Dr. Constance Dziombak, Past President/TESOL Liaison met with Dr. Rosalinda Barrera, Assistant Deputy Secretary of Education and Director of the Office of English Language Acquisition, U.S. Department of Education, Washington, D. C. to discuss the education of English Language Learners in New York State.

Essay Contest
We are pleased to announce NYS TESOL's 2011 student essay contest. The winners of the student essay contest will have their essays published in the conference journal and will also receive a gift certificate. Please view the attached flyer which contains additional information regarding the contest and submission of essays.

The theme of this year's student essay contest is "How has your community helped you learn English?"

The deadline for student essay submission is May 31, 2011.
