The Long Island Professional Committee on ESOL Education presented its 10th annual Long Island ESOL Conference, “Teaching ESL in a New Decade: Best Practices, New Tools, and Fresh Perspectives” on Saturday, April 10th at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, NY. The Committee members include Maria Dove, Vicky Giouroukakis, Andrea Honigsfeld, Jacqueline Nenchin, Maureen Walsh, and Sr. Alexandria Wolochuk all from Molloy College; Deborah O’Brien-Smith from Nassau Community College; Abraham Sabbas from Farmingdale State College; Meredith Van Schuyler from Hempstead Public Schools; and Tina Villalobos from Hicksville Public Schools. The goal of the Committee, through its offering of the annual conference, is to support and advance ESL professionals’ valuable work in serving our diverse learners. Over 170 participants showed up on a sunny Saturday to enjoy a day full of useful information with interesting, practitioner-oriented presentations from Elementary to Adult level ESL. Participants also had opportunities to visit favorite on-site publishers. New York State TESOL, represented by its President, Constance Dziomback, was present to give its continued support to the event. Here's what some of our attendees had to say:
What will you say next year? We hope you can join us in October 2010 for our Turkish Cultural Afternoon and at the 11th LI ESOL Conference in April 2011! Vicky Giouroukakis |
